Gabourey Sidibe Plans to Tell Twins That She’s a Teacher, Runs a ‘Normal’ Household
Gabourey Sidibe doesn’t intend to tell her twin children she’s an actress until they’re older, if ever.
The Academy Award-nominated actress, who stars in new Lifetime movie “Give Me Back My Daughter,” recently spoke to People about her children, Cooper and Maya, whom she shares with her husband, Brandon Frankel. The mother and self-described “mama bear” detailed why she’s “protective” of her children and chooses to shield them from the entertainment world.
“There's a very strange thing where I'm a mom and I'm a mama bear, I'm protective of my kids, but because of what I do for a living, I kind of expose them to this bigger world that I hope that they never find out,” Sidibe told the outlet.
She continued, “I'm more like Drake, you know? I really would like to hide ... the world from my children, and I will for as long as I can.”
Sidibe also shared that her children don’t have “screen time,” and because of that, shouldn’t be able to recognize her on television. “Secondly, I'm just simply going to lie to them as long as I can about what I do for a living,” she continued. “I'm going to tell them I'm a teacher, and also, our household is very normal.”
On a new Apple TV+ documentary special, “Number One on the Call Sheet,” Sidibe explained one of her earlier gigs as a phone sex operator, which she might refrain from telling her children completely.
