Mary J. Blige Has Not Given Up On Love
Mary J. Blige still believes in love.
The legendary “Queen of Hip Hop Soul” has not given up on love even though she has suffered heartbreak in the past.
During an appearance on “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” the Grammy-Award-winning singer shared that she is moving forward in search of “Real Love.”
"That's the only way I'm able to be my own company," Blige said. "Because I believe in love for myself, I'm not going to give up on love. I’m not going to let a bad relationship or a bad marriage stop me from having a good life and having romance and getting the hugs that I want and the desire and kisses."
Describing herself as “hard” to love at one time, Blige is currently in an exclusive relationship and able to receive the love she deserves.
"I want a man! I want love, I want it all, and I’m not going to let my past stop me from that," Blige explained.
"It’s because I love myself like that, I’m able to draw things to me, and I’m able to receive the love that I know I deserve," she added.
Last year, Blige released "Still Believe in Love," which captures her current perspective on romance and relationships. She wrote the song in 2016 while divorcing her ex-husband Kendu Issacs after 12 years of marriage.
"I was trying to believe in something other than what I was living in and dealing with, and that’s hate, self-hate, you know? I started this journey during that marriage, that sparked the lyrics for ‘Good Morning Gorgeous,’ and that’s the love for myself," she said in an interview with “CBS Mornings.”
Along with speaking on her love life, Blige was making the rounds in promotion of her annual Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit set for May 10-12, on Mother’s Day weekend.
In its third year, the festival will take place in New York City for the first time in partnership with Pepsi and Live Nation Urban.
The action-packed weekend features a concert at the Barclays Center with Blige and special guests, Jill Scott, Muni Long, Lola Brooke, 50 Cent, Jadakiss, Fat Joe, and Funk Flex. The festival also includes a Comedy Show featuring Tiffany Haddish, Don’t Call Me White Girl, and Paris Sashay; a Jazz Concert featuring Robert Glasper; and the weekend ends with a Gospel Brunch, hosted by Blige. The Clark Sisters with Femme It Forward will headline a Gospel Concert.
