Mary J. Blige Talks New Beats, New Boo, And New Boots
2024 is shaping up to be the year of "Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary, Mary."
In her latest interview hosted by Big Tigger with Audacy V-103 studios in Atlanta, Mary J. Blige pulled back the layers on everything in her life that is getting the Mary touch. From the looks of things, the undisputed Queen of Hip-Hop Soul is coming for the top.
Last year, Blige dropped her latest single, "Still Believe in Love," which features Vado, whom she signed to her new label, Beautiful Life Productions. For Tigger, it seemingly came "out of nowhere."
"Well I wrote the song when I was fresh outta my divorce 'cause I needed to say something different and something positive, other than what was going on in my life… I had to believe in myself," she explained.
"The timing, the climate for the song was just perfect for right now,” she continued. “People need some positivity, people need to know that, y’know, I’m not dying… like I’m good, I’m happy, no matter what happens in life, I’m gonna get through it. And ‘Still Believe’ is just about believing in myself… not giving up on life, not giving up on love, and I just think my fans needed to hear that from me.”
Still, it's been two years since the Grammy-winning hitmaker dropped her last studio album, "Good Morning Gorgeous," which went gold.
Now, the time has come for another layer of her greatness. Blige teased that her next album is slated to drop in the summer.
"This is what I do," she said
As of late, music has not been the only thing on the "My Life" singer's mind. Big Tigger inquired about her dating life, asking if she was single. “No,” Blige replied with a laugh. “No, I’m not single.”
She continued, “I am happily doing what I am doing.”
Ok, Mary!
Throughout her career, Blige has been known to always rock the flyest threads with attention-commanding boots. And now, she is ready to break into the fashion industry, one heel at a time. When Tig asked about her anticipatory boot line, she said, “It’s coming.” Tig tapped in again seeking clarity, asking “It’s a thing?” while Blige said, “Yea, it’s coming."
After that, Tig asked the plug for a freebie for Christmas, but Blige pulled back and suggested he exercise patience. “Christmas? We ain’t even gone into production yet, we ain't do nothing yet," she laughed.
“It’s coming in maybe two years or something, but not right now," she added while asserting the line would likely debut in one year instead. “I’m working it out."
