Kerry Washington to Play Anita Hill in HBO Biopic
Kerry Washington is headed from ABC to HBO, starring as Anita Hill in a TV movie, which she is also set to executive produce.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the biopic, called Confirmation, is in development from HBO Films, and will chronicle the tense 1991 Clarence Thomas Supreme Court nomination hearings. That year, Anita Hill was pushed into the spotlight when she accused Thomas of sexual harassment. Hill's testimonial captured national attention and permanently changed the way people think about sexual harassment, women's rights and race relations.
The film is set to detail the subsequent confirmation hearings and their permanent impact on modern society's views on sexual harassment and the workplace.
Confirmation will be written by Susannah Grant and will be executive produced by Scandal's leading lady. While it has been confirmed that Washington will play the lead role of Hill, no word has yet been released on who will play Thomas.
