Dick Gregory’s Son Blasts Emmys Over ‘Disrespectful’ Snub
The renowned comedian and activist was excluded from the show’s In Memoriam tribute.
The family of late civil rights activist Dick Gregory is speaking out after he was not featured during the In Memoriam segment at this year’s Emmy awards.
In a statement to TMZ.com, Gregory’s son, Christian Gregory revealed that his family was not contacted by the Emmy’s in regards to the tribute segment at all. Gregory says the oversight was “disrespectful” as his father paved the way for inclusion in television through his civil rights activism and success in entertainment.
While Dick Gregory, comedian Charlie Murphy and actor Harry Dean Stanton were left out of the televised tribute, they were quickly included into the Academy of Television and Arts & Sciences memoriam online.
