Whoopi Goldberg Shares How She Pulled Off the Ultimate Tribute to Late Mother at Disneyland
Whoopi Goldberg recently shared how she paid tribute to her mother at the happiest place on earth.
During a July 10 appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” the Academy Award winner revealed that after her mother, Emma Harris, passed away in August 2010, she spread her ashes on her mom’s favorite Disneyland ride, It's a Small World.
Prefacing her story with "No one should do this," “The View” host explained that her mother had a deep love for the amusement park, especially the Small World attraction, which originated from her childhood memories of the World's Fair.
To carry out the tribute, the “Sister Act” star would discreetly "scoop some of her up" and fake a sneeze, then quickly play it off by stating, “My god, this cold is getting worse and worse.” She also confessed that a similar moment occurred near the "flowers where it says Disneyland."
Seven years later, Goldberg was honored as a Disney Legend. She eventually disclosed her actions to the company.
"I told them I did it," she shared. "I wanted to make sure, actually, that I hadn't done something that was dangerous, 'cause it hadn't occurred to me. But there's a reason they don't want ashes just floatin' around."
