An Emotional 106 & Park Is Dedicated To DJ Megatron

Hosts Terrence J and Rocsi remembered their friend and colleague during an emotional 106 & Park dedicated to the late DJ Megatron on Monday. With friends and family in the audience, thoughts and prayers were sent out to the DJ who, at 32, was found dead near his home on Staten Island Sunday morning. “[He was] such a young and fresh talent,” said Rocsi. “There’s no replacing him.”

Megatron, whose real name was Corey McGriff, has been an integral part of the 106 & Park staff since 2007. He was a major force behind the scenes, keeping the audience’s excitement high during commercial breaks and reaching out to the 106 & Park community for “What’s Good” segments.

As part of the dedication, 106 & Park produced an in memoriam video highlighting Megatron’s loveable character, energetic personality and wonderful smile. Tears fell when the gospel singers of Mary Mary burst into an a cappella version of “Trouble Ain’t” in tribute to those in mourning.

“He will always be a part of the 106 family, forever,” said Terrence J.

In a statement, BET Network said, “We are saddened by the news of the untimely loss of our friend and colleague…we extend our deepest condolence to his family. He will truly be missed.”

Nicki Minaj paid respects to Mega, who also worked at Hot 97, via Twitter. “Rest In Peace DJ Megatron. My thoughts are with your family and friends.”
