#OnTheVerge: Anycia Is Heating Up Quick and Has Some Big Names As Fans

The Atlanta rapper’s silky smooth flow has her hive desperate for what’s next.

Anycia stands as a rising star within Atlanta's vibrant new artist scene, captivating an ever-expanding fanbase that multiplies by the day.

Hailing from the fusion of New Orleans, New York, and California, this Georgia-born rapper embodies the essence of Atlanta's "it girls" gearing up for an explosive 2024. But Anycia's journey into music wasn't just a sudden leap—it was ingrained in her from the start. Surrounded by diverse relatives across the U.S. and immersed in the infectious energy of ATL, she discovered her passion for music at an early age.

“All different types of cultures play a real big role in the way I am and my style,” she told BET. “[Atlanta is] a very cultural place. So it's like even if you don't grow up in a house with a family who has a great playlist, you don't really have a choice but to find yourself looped into some good music because Atlanta is the home of music.”

Beginning to really spark some buzz over the past 12 months, Anycia has caught her hometown’s attention – as well as the country as a whole. Earlier this month, she released a debut six-song EP called EXTRA, which was more of a recap of all the heat she served in the months leading up to it.

In August, Anycia caught fire with her virally successful song/video “BRB,” which she says was created on the spot and right after returning from a tour of various record labels. “I just went in the booth and freestyled but I'm always like an in the moment kind of person too,” she describes. “t was really just real moments in my life. And I just reached out and put it in the zone.”

The song, which immaculately showcases Anycia’s silky smooth flow through her monotone voice, is unique among anyone out currently, and possibly why she has admires who know preeminent hip-hop talent.

Among those fans are Kevin Durant and Drake, who both have sung her praises. The former commented on a viral snippet of her song “So What,” which features a Ciara sample, writing “This it.” The latter actually went further and reached out to speak with Anycia following the release of “BRB.” According to Anycia, the Toronto rapper has been nothing but inspiring to her during their conversations.

“He's actually so down to earth and so cool, he really loves music like he's really tapped into music. Even still now he might pop up in a text just to make sure everything's going right,” she says. “I got a chance to meet with him and he's just so down to earth.”

Recently getting off tour with Detroit rapper Veeze, Anycia’s been able to build her stage presence while also enjoying the moment she’s having. With millions of streams through various platforms, viral success and eye-opening cosigns, she says she’s excited for what’s next but isn’t taking anything for granted.

“The person I want to be, is this ‘it girl’ right, but I feel like there comes more with that, like wanting to be an artist that people feel aligned with. I want to be somebody that's relatable,” she notes. “And not even just on a music standpoint, but being personable.”

In late September, Anycia tweeted a reflection of just how crazy the past year has been for her, writing, “This time, last year, my car was on its last leg and @karrahbooo had just f****d her s**t up. We were between jobs, tryna figure everything tf out. Now, 1 year into this music s**t, and she’s on tour and I’m going on my first tour! [The] only girls on our tours, too! GOD DID!”

Now, she’s on her way to making some even bigger waves in the new year.

“The best thing that I've gotten out everything is the instant confidence boost,” she explains. “I feel superduper more love, and it's not even so much from the outside. It's an internal thing. It's kind of one of those things where you tell yourself you can't do something or you have every doubt in the world that it won't work or just thinking about all the things that will go wrong. And then you finally do it and it works.”
