Kobe Bryant Rookie Jersey Sells For $2.7 Million

The jersey was worn by the Lakers legend during the playoffs his rookie year.

A jersey worn by Kobe Bryant during his rookie season, including two playoff games, reportedly sold at auction for $2.73 million.

According to the Associated Press, SGP Auctions said Sunday (June 5) that the buyer and seller wished to remain anonymous. David Kohler of SCP Auctions previously estimated that the jersey from Bryant’s 1996-97 season would fetch between $3 million and $5 million.

Last year, another of Bryant’s rookie jerseys went for $3.69 million, fetching the highest price ever for a basketball jersey.

The purchaser at this latest auction won the No. 8 jersey Bryant wore for the Lakers in regular-season wins at the old Forum on April 13, 1997, against Utah and April 17, 1997, against Sacramento.

Kobe Bryant was tragically killed on January 26, 2020 in a California helicopter crash that also took the lives of his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.
