Beyoncé Has Released The Tracklist For ‘The Lion King’ Album – And The BeyHive Is Rejoicing
The Lion King is really the gift that just keeps on giving and the cup that continuously runneth over, courtesy of the Queen Bey.
Hours after she had the world thoroughly shook over her meeting with another queen in real life, Meghan Markle, at the London premiere of the live-action remake, Beyoncé has fans freaking out barely a day later.
Sometime between looking flawless on the red carpet and sitting down for a rare interview with Good Morning America in Bey Time, Bey has graciously rolled out the tracklist for her executive produced companion album, The Lion King: The Gift.
Three days before the album officially drops, Bey dropped the tracklist for the 14-track project on her website, unveiling every artist she handpicked to feature on it. If you thought the film’s original soundtrack was impressive, music fans will be floored by the lineup on The Gift.
Fans' spirits have been lifted, and summer has been saved.
Half of the songs are Beyoncé related, but hip-hop's most sought-after artists are tapped to spotlight on tracks, such as Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, rising femcee Tierra Whack, Afro-pop stars Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade, Mr Eazi, and the genre-defying Burna Boy.
Blue Ivy even has a little something on the album, clocking on a track titled “Brown Skin Girl.” Come through, baby Blue!
Talking to Good Morning America, Beyoncé described the album as a “love letter to Africa,” and explained how she fused different soundscapes together on the album.
“The soundtrack is a love letter to Africa, and I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just use some of the sounds and do my interpretation of it,” she revealed in a sneak peek of the ABC special that will air tonight.
“I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa.”
Mixing together native drums and chants with "incredible new sounds,” Beyonce detailed how she and her creative team created “a new genre of music" to paint a visual picture of the film.
“I feel like the soundtrack, it becomes visual in your mind. It's a soundscape. It's more than just the music, because each song tells the story of the film."
