Ca$h Out: Epic Records Dropped the Ball

Atlanta MC says creative differences caused label switch.

Cracking the Billboard Top 20 this week with his street banger "She Twerkin," platinum-selling rapper Ca$h Out is looking to pick up where he left off with his No. 1 hit in 2012, "Ca$hin' Out." The difference now is that he's no longer with his former label, Epic Records.

In an exclusive chat with BET.com, the Gerogia-bred rapper explained why he left the majors. "What really caused the turn was the second song," he said. "We wanted 'Hold Up" featuring Wale [as a promotional single] and they wanted another song, 'Big Booty.'"

From there, Ca$h said, "Things kinda went sideways, and I got into some little legal troubles and that made it go a little more sideways."

Spending most of 2013 dormant and recording without the support of his label left many writing off the young rapper as a one-hit wonder. While countless artists careers and albums have succumbed to label politics and battles over creative control, the ATL spitter insists it was the big corporate machine who dropped the ball. He's put his own money up to prove it.

"They ran with 'Big Booty' on their side, and we ran with 'Hold Up' on our side with our own money, you feel me, and we showed them because 'Hold Up' was killing 'Big Booty,'" he revealed. "Then they tried to pull 'Big Booty' back and jump on 'Hold Up' at the last minute, and they spent [the] budget on 'Big Booty,' and spent budget on a video for 'Big Booty' that didn't come out, you feel me? It was just money being wasted."

While there's no bad blood or hard feelings between him and Epic chairman/CEO L.A. Reid, Ca$h, now signed to indie label E1 Music, is ready to go full throttle with his debut album, Let's Get It, which boasts features from Lil Durk, MigosRich Homie Quan and more.

Let's Get It is set to hit stores in June. Check out the video below to see what else Ca$h had to say.
