On this day in 2001, Earl Beal, co-founder of the doo-wop group the Silhouettes, died at 76. Beal, a baritone singer, formed the group with lead singer Billy Horton at a pool hall in Philadelphia in 1955. The group is best known for the hit “Get a Job” (1957), which went to No. 1 on the R&B and pop charts.
