Ashanti Says A Music Producer Asked Her To Shower With Him
Ashanti recently recounted a story about a music producer that she collaborated with who asked her to shower with him or pay him $80,000 for the two songs they worked on.
"I thought he was joking," she recalled in a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club. "Then he was like, 'Nah, I'm dead serious.'"
According to People, Ashanti said the producer initially told her that she wouldn't have to pay, "You know you my homie." But, he later changed his tune and gave her two options: take a shower with him or pay "40 racks per record."

Ashanti first told the story in 2018 during an interview on SiriusXM's Conversations with Maria Menounos. She was asked about power imbalances and sexual harassment in the music industry at the height of the #MeToo movement, saying, "unfortunately, these things definitely happen."
“I've come across a situation where there was a certain producer that, you know, he had his little crush or whatever, but it wasn't anything new, you know?" she continued. "Going into the session and recording, it was all good, and once I said 'No,' all of the sudden the track became $45,000."
She said she “had to call in the reinforcements,” speaking of her “really cool, scary big brothers,” and added that she ultimately got both songs and a third for free.
The singer shared that she feels compelled to share her experiences two decades into her career, "I feel like just for a woman, I had to come out and just say my piece," she said.
"At some point, you have just to speak up," she said. "And that's what I did."
The disclosure comes just weeks after Ashanti sat down with Angie Martinez for the IRL podcast where she detailed years of alleged verbal abuse and manipulation at the hands of her former label boss, Irv Gotti.
