NBA Star Kendrick Perkins Arrested for Public Intoxication
According to multiple reports, NBA star Kendrick Perkins was arrested this morning on public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges.
TMZ says that Perkins, center for the Oklahoma City Thunder, was booked into Jefferson County Jail in his hometown, Beaumont, Texas, at around 4:00 a.m. Perkins, who won a championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008, posted the $251 bond and was released shortly afterwards. The charge is a misdemeanor—its maxinum penalty is a $500 fine.
CBS Sports says that Milwaukee Bucks forward Stephen Jackson was arrested as well, but TMZ disputes this. CBS cites reports that the arrest may stem from a fight between Perkins, Jackson and former teammate Rajon Rondo. The three were in Beaumont for Perkin's basketball camp and celebrity game. However, the game was canceled after Perkins was hospitalized on Thursday; a rep for Perkins said that he was suffering from dehydration and was told to rest.
The details are obviously still cloudy, but getting arrested for drinking and fighting doesn't sound like our idea of "resting." Stay tuned as this story develops.
