Must-Watch Trailer: Janelle Monáe’s ‘Moonlight’ Follows a Black Gay Man Struggling With His Sexuality
Janelle Monáe is bringing her talent and magnetism to the big screen for her first major role in the indie drama Moonlight. The first trailer for the film, about a young Black man in 1970s Miami struggling with his sexuality, is gripping.
The Electric Lady joins Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris and Andre Holland in the film, along with newcomers Ashton Sanders and Trevante Rhodes, who play the lead character Chiron at different ages.
The film is also produced by Brad Pitt's Plan B, the company behind Selma, 12 Years a Slave and David Oyelowo's Nightingale.
Barry Jenkins's anticipated film is already getting plenty of awards season buzz.

Moonlight hits theaters on October 21, and as for Monáe, it seems like her Hollywood career is just getting started. She also co-stars opposite Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer in Hidden Treasures, also out this fall.
