This Angolan Model Stars Alongside Wiz Khalifa in New Ad
The Gap has always been an iconic name in American Culture but with their new “Bridging the Gap” campaign, they are celebrating what really makes America great, our differences. Gap launched a fashionable film starring some of our favorite celebrities to showcase their collection of timeless basic white tees and individual beauty.
Directed, casted and styled by British fashion stylist and editor-in-chief of British Vogue magazine Edward Enninful, he used his connections with influential celebrities that he admired and worked with in the past to create a film that showed how diversity is beautiful using a blank canvas: a classic T-shirt.
“I love the optimistic American style that Gap celebrates and the simplicity of the basic white T-shirt that allows you to be yourself,” said Enninful. “Growing up, I loved the imagery I saw from America as it celebrated being the land of the free and home of the brave. This project is about authenticity and people living their truths.”
In the Bridging the Gap film, you instantly get the message that what makes us different can also make us the same, which created a remarkable form of unity through fashion!
The film stars, rapper Wiz Khalifa, model and activist Adwoa Aboah, model Maria Borges, champion fencer Miles Chamley-Watson, model Lineisy Montero, model Ellen Rosa, model and Instagram star Jasmine Sanders, actress and model Yara Shahidi, model and designer Alek Wek and more were all dressed in the new T-shirt, sharing their personal style while singing “Sunny” by Boney M.
We got to chat with the naturally beautiful Angolan fashion model Maria Borges, who famously walked the Victoria's Secret runway rocking a little Afro. She said she was “super excited” about her first campaign with the iconic American brand.
“It is wonderful to be a part of it [the campaign] and working with Edward again. We all came from different backgrounds and the campaign is about diversity so it was awesome to be a part of it,” shared Maria.
Her thoughts about "Bridging the Gap": “I mean Gap is such an incredible brand and they all have amazing stories about the white T-shirts. Once again they are bringing us another amazing campaign and I am happy to be a part of it.”
Even rapper Wiz Khalifa had his own take on the meaning of Bridging the Gap: “To me, ‘Bridging the Gap’ means making diversity more acceptable, by making it OK to look or act different. I do that by being myself,” said Khalifa.
