Tyler, the Creator Says OFWGKTA Is Done?
It seems like Tyler, the Creator's foray into music group stardom was merely a dream of someone who was too f**king young.
The Odd Future frontman dropped a mini-series on Twitter declaring, "although its no more, those 7 letters are forever."
For those confused or hopeful that it was some sort of cryptic message, he preceded the post with a note indicating that he hasn't seen his crew members in a while. "damn going threw the old golf wang photos s**t. i miss my friends alot. 5 years later isnt that long but wow soooo much has happened," he wrote.
He followed up both tweets with some throwback pics.
Tyler's hinted at stepping out on [group?] music a lot in recent months. Last June, during an appearance on Larry King Now, he said, "I want to do films and have my name mentioned next to Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino. I don't want my name mentioned next to other rappers at all. [I want to be] rich as f**k, a couple films under my belt, a couple of buildings and skate parks around the world, and a kid."
And though OFWGKTA got together to launch an Internet radio station later that year, he had already decided to disappoint fans who were looking for that EarlWolf collaboration with Earl Sweatshirt, soon after he was blamed for inciting a riot at SXSW. "To be honest, it will never live to the expectations of people that really want it," he posted. "Not that that really matters," he continued. "But I'm not in the mind frame to do a whole album of that s**t. i dont want to do it."
Meanwhile, he's not retiring the mic altogether. The world tour he's headlining dolo hits the U.S. next, kicking off Monday (June 1) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the Sunshine Theater.
