Victoria Monét Confirms Split from John Gaines Amidst Separation Speculation
Victoria Monét is setting the record straight about her relationship with John Gaines. The Grammy Award winner confirmed their breakup after speculation arose regarding their status.
In a joint statement on social media Monday (Sept. 23), the pair expressed their desire to keep their split private. Still, they felt it necessary to clarify their situation to “put a period on the question marks for the sake of our healing process.”
“We spent the last 10 months trying to respectfully and privately navigate the fact that we are no longer in a relationship,” Monét and Gaines wrote. “Though we still completely adore and respect each other, we are not a couple anymore.”
The former couple, who attended the Grammys together less than eight months ago, addressed the reasons for their separation, emphasizing their continued support for one another. “There was no infidelity, toxic behavior nor drama,” they explained. “We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter. It simply didn't work out and that's okay.”
They assured fans there was no animosity between them and confirmed their commitment to co-parenting their daughter, Hazel. “We still think the world of each other and operate with love in every interaction for our family,” they shared. “We have an incredible daughter to raise for life and that is undoubtedly our number 1 priority forever. No relationship status can remove or replace that fact.”
They concluded their statement by expressing gratitude to their families and fans while requesting privacy. “Thank you for your love, care and concern,” it read. “Please allow us the peace and space to maintain a safe and happy environment to continue to co-parent to the best of our ability for Hazel! We plan to remain a family regardless of our public-facing title, so please when you see us together with Hazel, be understanding and gentle.”
Monét and the fitness trainer confirmed their relationship in December 2020 when Victoria announced her pregnancy.
