Soul Train Awards 2022: Ari Lennox Gets Jazzy with These Sultry Tunes
Ari Lennox has a lot to be excited about. Just one month after releasing her second studio album, Age/Sex/Location, the singer-songwriter earned six nominations at the upcoming Soul Train Awards 2022. The Washington D.C. native is up for an award in several significant categories, including Album of the Year for her EP Away Message and Song of the Year for her latest single, “Pressure,” from her new project. Other nominations include one for “Best R&B/Soul Female Artist,” “Best Dance Performance,” and many more. Ahead of this year’s show hosted by actor and comedian Deon Cole from Las Vegas, NV, check out these sultry tunes from a jazzy twist from this year’s nominee, Ari Lennox.
“GOAT”
Ari closed out her 2016 EP PHO with this piano lead track titled “GOAT,” which finds the singer paying homage to the greatest of all time. The single features Steve Gray’s 1980 record, “Beverly Hills.”
“POF” (Plenty Of Fish)
“Plenty Of Fish,” known simply as “POF,” is the latest single from the rising singer-songwriter from her second studio album Age/Sex/Location. The jazz deep-cut record finds our songbird questioning why men never seem to meet her standards. She plays on the idiom ‘there’s plenty of fish in the sea’ as she asks why all the ‘fish’ who swim towards her are never what they seem. Rapper J. Cole also has uncredited vocals on the track. He also served as a producer.
“Up Late”
Ari tapped self-titled “trap-jazz” musician Masego for the smooth saxophone performance for the third single from her 2019 debut studio album, Shea Butter Baby. The track was co-written by Ari, Kojo, Bigg Kid, Nick Quinn, and Hollywood JB. The latter three were on production alongside Masego.
The Soul Train Awards 2022 premieres Saturday, November 26 at 8 pm ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
