Living In The Spotlight Featuring Ro James
Get To Know: Ro James
Ro James is an R&B singer-songwriter. James was born in Germany but moved around to many places, such as New York and Indianapolis. The singer was influenced by his aunt, Rosie Gaines, to start singing more publicly. His aunt was a former backup singer for Prince and Prince's "Purple Rain" motivated James to take singing seriously. James also experienced heartbreak, which really propelled his love of writing and singing music.
Making It To the Spotlight
James' career started out as a songwriter for many musicians. An encounter on social media site Myspace with singer Miguel led James to write one of Miguel's hits "Use Me." From there, he started to perform around New York. The rising star released his first EP Coke, Jack and Cadillacs in 2013.
Debut Single
In 2015, James signed with RCA Records and released his first single "Permission" in April 2016. The single was a hit and peaked at No. 1 on Billboard's Adult R&B songs chart.
