Bish What? Dolce & Gabbana Is Selling 'Slave Sandals'
Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana is under fire — again — for it's culturally insensitive marketing. The high-end brand has come under fire again over a new style of shoe that the company has named the “Slave Sandal.”
The “Slave Sandal in Napa Leather with Pompoms” is being sold for $2,395, and is available for pre-order on the company’s website. The sandals were also featured in D&G’s spring 2016 collection, calling them “a declaration of love to Italy.” While “Slave” was once an acceptable name for lace-up sandals, the term “gladiator,” has since replaced it.
Dolce & Gabbana is stranger to backlash following a release of a new product. Several years ago, the company sparked anger over earrings that looked like Blackamoors. The company is once again feeling the heat on social media for the latest release:
Dolce & Gabbana has yet to apologize for either the name or the design, which one Twitter user called, “a tragic accident between some craft materials and hot glue gun.”
