Report: Laurence Fishburne's Mother Faces Eviction
Fans of Laurence Fishburne may be singing his praises as he rides high off of the success of his new hit show Black-ish, but his mother seems to be singing a different tune. Hattie Fishburne claims that her son refuses to give her "a penny," forcing her to teeter on the brink of eviction.
"He's gone Hollywood," Hattie Fishburne, 80, told the New York Post. "For 20 years, I funded my son's career. He promised he would take care of me... To this day, I have not got a Christmas present or a 'Thank you, Mama' present. He hasn't given me a penny."
The Matrix actor's mother went on to reveal that she received an eviction notice from her Los Angeles apartment on Tuesday after she was unable to pay rent for the past few months. She claimed that her son cut her off completely and allegedly has not communicated with him in more than a year after his father died. She said that she is "so hurt and disappointed" that he is ignoring her.
"I can't buy food, clothing and shelter, go to the theater," she said. "I need a benefactor." The senior added that she suffers from arthritis, an underactive thyroid and high cholesterol. She also has difficulty walking after being involved in a car accident.
This is the second time that Hattie Fishburne has claimed that she was being evicted. Back in 1994, she said that she was being evicted from her Brooklyn home and was forced to live with a friend for two years. Fishburne, 53, has not yet responded to his mother's claims. A rep for the actor, however, told the New York Post that he could not be reached for comment because he is shooting Hannibal in Toronto.
