Chicago Gun Violence: 2 Dead, 13 Wounded This Past Weekend
In the last weekend of October, two people were killed and 13 people were wounded in a series of gun violence attacks in Chicago since Friday.
On early Sunday, a 17-year-old boy was killed after he was shot at by a man in the upper back as he was standing on a sidewalk. The teen was pronounced dead at the scene, according to NBC Chicago. On Saturday evening, a 39-year-old man, Frederick Ollie, was shot in the back of the head. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and pronounced dead after arrival, according to Cook County officials.
Many of those wounded this past weekend were teenagers. A 15-year-old was walking in alley and shot in the thigh on Saturday night, in what is being reported as a gang-related attack. Also, an 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg Saturday morning.
Last week, Rev. Al Sharpton announced that he would be taking his radio and television show to Chicago to highlight the people and organizations helping to combat the issues plaguing the area. The son of Martin Luther King Jr., Martin Luther King III, will be Sharpton's roommate and join him in efforts to bring national attention to Chicago's gun violence problem for the next two to three months.
