After watching her daughter’s public relationship with a much older rapper play out on the blogs and social media, Toya Wright is speaking out their heated breakup.
Reginae Carter, 20, Wright’s oldest daughter with Lil’ Wayne, dated 28-year-old rapper YFN Lucci since early last year but has now called it quits.

During a VMA red carpet interview with The Shade Room, the reality star discussed how she really felt about their bumpy relationship, confirming her daughter’s newly single status.
“Well, she’s single… She’s young. You live and you learn, whatever. I just want the best for my kid at the end of the day. It’s no shade against Lucci. I wish him the best but I want the best for her.”
When asked what’s her ideal mate for Reginae, Toya explained how she just wants her “daughter to be happy. I want her to get focused on her first and love that’ll come next.”
Carter and Lucci’s relationship played out on social media as both parties often aired their dirty laundry.
Earlier this year, the former Growing Up Hip Hop star tweeted how she hates “friendly” men. During Super Bowl weekend in Atlanta, she shared an Instagram post implying their split, “let him go, keep yourself,” before adding, “I will do exactly that.”
She even discussed their relationship on an episode of VH1’s T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle, telling her mother how the pair decided to “cool it down” so she could instead focus on her acting career.
Carter had tweeted, then deleted soon after, this tweet blasting a certain someone. “Whoever played with my heart … u a dumb mf.” She also posted and deleted this thought: “I don’t think u n—-s ever grow up tbh.”
The “All Night Long” emcee seemed to respond to his former flame’s post, posting on Instagram: “LOVE is just a word it don’t matter to me.
Last year Wright warned her daughter about dating an older rap superstar, encouraging Carter to instead focus on her own goals.
“I don’t like the age difference. I don’t like the fact that he has four kids because I mean, you trying to be stepmom, honey?”
She added, “You know how I feel about that whole rapper thing… I dated your dad when I was younger than that and there’s a whole lot that comes with that lifestyle. And that’s the last thing I want or any mother want.”
Ultimately, Carter was able to officially move on. Fans cheered the young actress on for her post-relationship glow up, as she purchased her own dream home at only 20 years old.
