T.I. Discusses Work and Family Life on New Reality Show
With Monday night's premiere of VH1's T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle, we were treated to two back-to-back episodes of the new series. In them, T.I. is just starting to adjust to life outside of prison, getting his career back on track, and balancing work with family life.
“I think the best part about it was the fact that I just came back, so I had nothing to really compare it to,” he tells MTV News about the change. “It all came at the same time. I didn’t get home, get used to being home, didn’t have to adjust...It was just [like] this is the new way. So as I came home and got acclimated with my home life, the show was a part of that, so I got used to both things at the same time.”
What has proven a bit of a challenge is committing to his career while being available to his children.
“I’ll say the balance of both, it’s complex and sometimes stepping away from it for week, a day, a month, can...once you get back into it, it reminds you exactly how much work it is, so the combination of both or all things, that took the most adjusting.”
In the second episode, T.I. tries to juggle rehearsals for the BET Hip-Hop Awards and his sons' football games. After his driver misses an exit leading him to cancel on his younger son's game, Tip has a change of heart and opts to skip the rehearsal instead.
"Over the years I've grown to love my career. However, I love my family more," he says to the camera. "And at the end of the day, man, as supportive as BET has been to my career, I think they'll understand."
