Cardi B Was Anxious About her Met Gala Look: 'Imagine Competing with Yourself'
For Cardi B, her only competition is herself.
The 30-year-old rapper has become a must-see at the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute fundraiser best known as "The Met Gala."
In a newly-released video from Vogue, the "Up" rapper showed the behind-the-scenes process of getting dressed for the event where she wore not one, not two, but three stunning ensembles.
"Every single time that I got to the Met, it's fun of course. But it's like, I don't know, like, after my first time going to the Met, I always get anxiety. And the anxieties just grow and grow and grow," she said in the video.
"Maybe because my looks are so spectacular that people just expect every year to be more amazing than the last, and it's so hard because imagine competing with myself. That is sickening," she added.
"The anxiety," Cardi said. "You know sometimes I be like, 'I'm not doing the Met Gala next year, I just can't do it,' like it's bad for my health."
She added that it isn't just competing with her own looks that makes her anxious, she also worries about "bad pictures, people not liking my outfit, like it's just everything, the pressure!"
Cardi left her hotel in a bejeweled pink dress with a plunging neckline and a matching oversized tulle headpiece. She arrived on the carpet in a black-and-white floral ballgown with a silver wig.
Per People, the costume changes continued with the third dress, a Chanel signature--pink-and-black houndstooth bodycon dress designed with a plunging neckline, plus gemstones down the bodice and around the hem.
Even after all that pageantry, Cardi still pulled off a fourth look, spaghetti-strap newsprint dress, for the official afterparty which she attended with her husband Offset.
