Beyoncé's 'Formation' Is Where Black Beauty Meets Activism

Here's your complete breakdown of every outfit she #slays.

How do you work police brutality, #BlackLivesMatter and Hurricane Katrina into one explosive video? In true queen fashion, Beyoncé delivers. So, by now, you’ve witnessed the fabulousness that is “Formation” (that is, unless you live under a rock). It was an immaculate weekend for the BeyHive with the surprise release of the powerful video just one day before her epic Super Bowl performance.

Lyrics like, “I like my baby hair, with baby hair and Afros / I like my Negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils” go along with imagery of Southern belle realness, amazing hair and fashion...basically, there’s no reason why every Black woman shouldn’t be obsessed with this video.
Here's a breakdown of everything Bey wore as she #slayed all day.

Black is as beautiful as ever here. Wolford tights and jewelry from Fallon and Dylan Lex are the only new additions to this otherwise vintage ensemble. And we are pretty much ready to see Bey lovers by the dozens sport these extra-long pigtail braids, and we don’t mind it one bit.

This is how a queen waist trains. The corset is courtesy of Palace in Los Angeles and her lacey frock was spotted on the Zimmermann Spring 2016 runway. Fancy, no?

Bey soaks up #BlackGirlMagic in a Fendi fur and Rosie Assoulin bodysuit. Catch her stunning braids flying free in her whip!

In this scene, she hits that infamous Beyoncé choreography in a burgundy bodysuit and a Chanel necklace. One word: Slay.

She’s caught sitting pretty in another lace look, this time by Alessandra Rich. She adds a Chanel Spring 2016 hat for a flawless finish.

That hair! Those pastels! This Gucci gown is giving us spring fever.

Blue Ivy in a pose that says, “Yes, this is the 'fro my mama speaks of.” Yassss!

Gucci gear comes in clutch for Bey and her girls to dance in an empty swimming pool. In formation, of course.

The looks are courtesy of the video’s stellar style team, including Marni Senofonte, Shiona Turini and Zerina Akers. They really were on point with delivering style that speaks true to the lyrics and has us all talking. In the words of Beyoncé, “You now you that b***h when you cause all this conversation.” Will you fall into formation?
