Lupita Nyong’o Wins at the Critics' Choice Awards

12 Years a Slave, Forest Whitaker also prevail.

Lupita Nyong'o is in the running for her first-ever Academy Award, but the actress is already a winner at the Critics' Choice Awards. Nyong'o won Best Supporting Actress at the annual awards show for her role in 12 Years a Slave.
The film also took home the Best Picture award and Best Screenplay for scribe John Ridley. 12 Years beat out American Hustle for the top honor, giving it a leg up in the race for the Best Picture prize at the Academy Awards. 
20 Feet From Stardom, also an Oscar contender, won Best Documentary while The Butler star and Fruitvale Station producer Forest Whitaker awarded the Joel Siegel award for his contributions to cinema.
