Franklin Thomas named first Black president of the Ford Foundation.

Franklin Thomas is named the first Black president of The Ford Foundation, the internationally recognized nonprofit which focuses on promoting social change around the world.

 

Also, on this day in 1858, playwright and former slave William Wells Brown publishes Leap to Freedom, the first play published by an African-American.
