Look: Charlotte Protester Justin Carr Dies After Being Shot in the Head
During the protests of the deadly shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, one protester was shot in the head and taken to a local hospital. 26-year-old Justin Carr died on Thursday in the hospital, said officials.
The shooting occurred on Wednesday night when the peaceful protests turned to violence and unrest. At first, there was no information regarding the shooting of Carr. However, CMPD Police Chief Kerr Putney has confirmed that a suspect has been arrested.
During a press conference on Friday morning, Putney stated authorities arrested Rayquan Borum and charged him with the murder of Justin Carr.
As a result of the violence, a midnight curfew has been imposed on the city. Borum was arrested on Thursday night, along with three other protesters. These protesters were arrested for failure to disperse and for violating the newly-imposed curfew, Putney said.
The curfew, which lasts between midnight and 6 a.m., will continue to be in effect on Friday night.
Putney also stated that he will no longer be providing updates on the Keith Lamont Scott case, as it has officially been turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations.
