Killer Mike: Call Andre 3000 If You Want OutKast Reunion
For the past decade fans have been praying to the hip hop Gods for two things: Dr. Dre to release Detox, which has taken on a mythological life of its own, and a new album from Atlanta hip hop's founding fathers, OutKast (together)!
In an interview with BET.com from SXSW, Killer Mike, who made his rap debut on OutKast's, "Snappin' & Trappin'" from their multi-platinum selling album, Stankonia, back in 2000, came up with a solution that he says just might get the duo back in the studio together.
"I'ma just start giving out Andre 3000's personal number so you guys can all call him," he joked. He then got serious, urging OutKast fans to not sleep on the music that Big Boi has been putting out in recent years:
"(Big Boi) is doing a hell of a job at making sure that we have music out there that's reminiscent of the OutKast brand, and that's dope!" He said, referring to Daddy Fat Sax's recent albums, 2010's Sir Luscious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty and 2012's Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors.
"It's just something about being a player, when you see the game keep going you want to come back," he said of the inspiration 3000 may need for a return. "(Andre) is in the studio making music, and I think he's itching to come back so hopefully he will. I know Big Boi's willing and whenever he wants to we're all right there."
With the 20-year anniversary of the duo's 1994 debut album, Southernplayalisticadilacmuzik, around the corner, fans have been keeping their fingers crossed that the pioneering group will come back.
Until then, Killer Mike's advice is, "everybody just call Andre 3000 and tell him 'Get ya a-- out the crib and onto the stage!"
