Evelyn Lozada probably wishes she could have a do-over after making a racially insensitive dig at CeCe Gutierrez on a recent episode of Basketball Wives.

Lozada and her co-star were in the middle of a heated argument during which Gutierrez referred to her as “Evil-yn” and one half of “Tweedledee and Tweedledumb” (along with Jennifer Williams).

Lozada fired back and called her “Lee Lee,” a reference to a woman who works at a nail shop. Being that Gutierrez is of Asian decent (Filipino), it was cloaked in the racial stereotype that Asian women generally work nail salons.

At the time, the pair’s co-stars didn’t condemn the name-calling, but the Internet certainly caught on and even began a Change.org petition demanding that Evelyn Lozada be relieved “of her services from Basketball Wives.”

“The viewers of VH1’s Basketball Wives demand Ms.Lozada be terminated from employment indefinitely… by the Executive Producer Shaunie O’Neal or The Other VH1 Underlying Personnel,” read the petition. “If not, expect the show to drop in massive ratings, as we the viewers will not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, fat-shaming, or any other type of harassment and injustice.”

Lozada’s initial response was less than sincere basically making a tweet that amounted to s**t happens. But after more backlash came her way, she returned with a much more thoughtful approach.
