Lil Wayne will best the competition for the second week in a row.
His smash album, Tha Carter IV, which sold nearly a million records its first week, will yet again top the Billboard charts this week, selling over 100k more than the runner-up Adele's 21. However, sales of the LP nose-dived 77 percent compared to last week—though that still adds up to an not-too-bad 219,000 units, pushing Tha Carter IV past the platinum mark to a total of 1.2 million sales.
We wonder how Young Money CEO Mack Maine feels about it? Two weeks ago he spoke with XXL about the importance of long-term sales rather than first-week numbers. “I said this before,” he said. “I told Nicki—she was kinda nervous about her first-week sales—I said, ‘First week sales don’t matter.’ I’d rather my final sales matter. I know albums from Juvenile 400 Degreez to Beiber’s first album sold 20,000 or 30,000 the first-week and went on to sell 2 million one album then 6 million on another album... With Wayne, I don’t want him to sell a million the first-week, [and] then drop to 100,000 the next week then 50,00 the following week. I’d rather sell ten times platinum total.”
