Michael Ealy to Play Civil Rights Activist in New Film
Michael Ealy is taking a serious turn on the big screen following his role in Think Like a Man Too. The actor has signed on to star in A Civil Right, in which he will portray civil rights activist Dr. Gilbert Mason, who staged non-violent "wade-ins" to protest the segregated beaches of Mississippi and led the first successful anti-discrimination lawsuit against the Southern state.
Mason’s activism landed him at number three on the FBI’s civil rights agitators most-watched list. In addition, he successfully fought for school desegregation in the state and helped form the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO). Mason served as President of the Mississippi NAACP for three decades before his death in 2006.
In other casting news, Danny Glover joins Alec Baldwin for Andron: The Black Labyrinth. The film, centered on a group of people who are plunged into a dark, claustrophobic maze where they must fight to survive as the outside world watches, sounds like an adult Hunger Games. The film begins shooting this month in Malta.
