#SocialBite: Black Cop Assists White Supremacist
With the summer approaching its boiling point (as far as heat index and racial tension goes), a lil' sip of Southern hospitality is just what the Internet needed.
Robert Godfrey, deputy chief of staff to Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) posted the above photo to his Twitter account. Though not a state sanctioned activity (he maintains all opinions on the page are "personal"), it was a deft move in giving a different perspective of America right now.
In it, officer Leroy Smith, in full uniform and melanin, assists an older white gentleman, in a Nazi tee, making his way towards shelter and water. It's racked up nearly 5,000 re-tweets and almost as many favorites since it was posted Saturday.
"Not an uncommon example of humanity in SC," Godfrey writes, echoing the main message behind #BlackLivesMatter: Black people are human (whole ones, not 3/5ths of one) and we know white people are too.
