Ab-Soul Puts His Label Status on the Line With '47 Bars'
Black Hippy member Ab-Soul took back control of his career this weekend when he released a new song that calls out his labelmates.
"I might get dropped from the label for this 1, but f**k it lol..." he tweeted Saturday (Feb. 28), followed by a link to the track "47 Bars."
Over the beat, Soulo spits 47 bars, of course, including, "So don't ask me about Kendrick or Q/ Jay Rock, Zay Wop, or SZA's sexy a**, too/ 'Cause I was thinking long-term 'fore I met them/ I been through hell and back, I deserve heaven."
While the TDE crew may seem too on point to let questions from curious fans (or pesky media) cause any unraveling, it seems there's a lot more pressure now (what with two Grammy wins for Kendrick Lamar).
"YALL PLEASE LEAVE DOT ALONE MAN.HE DONT TAKE NO 1 SERIOUS..HE DONT F**K WITH NOBODY..PLZ, BECUZ WHEN HE GO,HES GONE & IT WONT BE SUBLIMINAL," one TDE executive posted to social media a few days before Ab-Soul's self-leak.
Kendrick's album is the next one expected from the label. Top Dawg Entertainment also picked up a Grammy nod for ScHoolboy Q's recent release, Oxymoron.
Ab-Soul dropped his latest, These Days, to critical acclaim in June 2014. It debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard 200.
