Her passion for songwriting happened at an early age
While talking to NME, Doechii revealed she wrote her first song when she was six. “I knew this girl who was a huge Nicki Minaj fan, and at this time, I was really Christian, and I believed that Nicki Minaj was a part of the Illuminati,” she chuckled. “I was really against her. But she put me onto Nicki Minaj, and I was immediately hooked and wanted to start a group. I wanted to rap, so I wrote my first song, and we did it at a talent show, and we won!”
She’s a big SZA fan
During an interview, Doechii opened up about her musical inspirations, including Kanye West, Tyler, The Creator, OutKast, and SZA. “I also love SZA’s honesty: she always finds a really cool, beautiful way to say what we’re all thinking, and we didn’t even know we felt that way until she said it. I love the way she interacts with music, and you can just feel her in it, all the time,” she gushed. “That’s something I strive for, and I think that’s what every artist wants: we really want to get the purest form of our emotions out.”

She’s already earned high honors from the industry
In June, the “Persuasive” singer made XXL’s 2022 Freshmen Class. As many may know, the legendary list features ten artists to watch, all appearing on the magazine’s cover. It also serves as a larger platform for rising stars. This year’s group included the singer and rapper and notables up-and-coming artists such as Saucy Santana, KenTheMan, Babyface Ray, Nardo Wick, and more.
She’s signed to TDE
Top Dawg Entertainment, which signed artists such as Grammy Award-winning Kendrick Lamar and SZA, signed the rising star as their first female rapper in a joint partnership with Capitol Records. “Persuasive” was the first track released under the new deal.
She’s always been into the arts
While growing up in her hometown of Tampa, Fl, Doechii always loved self-expression. She participated in ballet, tap dancing, acting, sports cheerleading, and gymnastics.
