NFL Fines San Francisco 49ers Receiver Braylon Edwards

Edwards must pay $50,000 for violating NFL’s substance abuse policy for DUI arrest last September.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards escaped suspension but he did receive a fine for his DUI arrest, the team announced Tuesday.

Edwards will have to pay a $50,000 fine for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy as a result of his DUI arrest last September while he was a member of the New York Jets. He pleaded guilty of the charge in July.

But the big relief is that Edwards won’t face suspension by the league for the off-the-field issue.

"I guess the good news is out 49er faithfuls, no suspension,” Edwards tweeted. “I did get fined but I am in agreement and happy to move on.”

Edwards has received a fresh start with the 49ers after running into trouble with the law while with the Cleveland Browns and the Jets.

Edwards first got into trouble in January 2010 when he punched a friend of LeBron James. He pleaded no contest and received probation. But while on probation Edwards then got caught with a DUI in Manhattan. His blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit, according to an Associated Press report.
