Kendrick Lamar Allegedly Made A Threat That Will Have Fans Hitting Cancel On This Streaming Service...

The power of the K-Dot.

A thank you may be in order to Compton rap primacy Kendrick Lamar from fans and artists alike after he (among other artist reps) put some fire under Spotify for their now-redacted hateful conduct policy, Bloomberg reports.

The site alleges that King Kunta was among several representatives who contacted Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek and head of artist relations Troy Carter to assert their discontent with the policy, which removed artists such as Miami rapper XXXTENTACION, R&B singer R. Kelly and Long Beach rap star Tay-K from Spotify’s curated playlists amid their personal legal and social controversies.

Bloomberg added that Kendrick also threatened to remove his own music from the streaming service if they refused to adjust the policy. Eventually, the site also states, Spotify has conceded to the requests, and will reinstate the removed artists to their respective playlist categories. They’re also in talks with stakeholders of the music industry as well as civil rights activists to settle on a way to resolve the guideline that would satisfy both sides.

“Where and how do you draw the line?” media consultant Vickie Nauman reportedly said of the conflicted interests. “I support taking a stand and not willingly sponsoring a known violent artist, but it’s quite unclear to me how you can consistently monitor and apply any sort of similar editorial/social/cultural standards across art on any scale.”

K-Dot has not officially confirmed his advocacy for Spotify’s policy rollback, but hopefully, the service comes to a resolve sooner than later.
