The grassroots organization Black Women for Obama is rebuilding its national network of African-American women to support President Obama’s re-election campaign. According to Patricia Wilson-Smith, the group’s national director, the goal is to have a chapter in every state. In 2008, it created 26 chapters that focused on get-out-the-vote events, registration drives and fundraising.

“It’s important for Black women around the country to show solidarity around President Obama’s re-election now more than it was in 2008,” Wilson-Smith said. “We’re at a critical point as a nation where we can continue to right the inequities and bad policies created during the Bush administration or do a u-turn back in the direction the Republicans and their Tea Party members would have to go.”
