Naomi Campbell Unmoved by Cadbury Apology
Naomi Campbell thinks Cadbury’s apology is too little, too late. The Kraft-owned company offended the supermodel with a new Bliss chocolate bar ad that read: "Move over Naomi, there's a new diva in town." The image features a decedent chocolate bar atop a mound of diamonds. Immediately following the debut, Naomi spoke out saying, "I am shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humor in this. It is insulting and hurtful." Naomi’s mother also weighed in. "I'm deeply upset by this racist advert," Valerie Campbell said. "Do these people think they can insult black people and we just take it? This is the 21st century, not the 1950s. Shame on Cadbury."
Cadbury recently issued an apology to Campbell, claiming it was “never our intention to cause any offense and the campaign itself is a light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss." Yeah, well, the supermodel told the Guardian she still isn’t amused, and she again lashed out at the company—this time because of their tardiness. "The advertisement was in poor taste on a number of levels, not least in the way they likened me to their chocolate bar. It is also a shame that it took so long for Cadbury to offer this apology."
