Kanye and Jay-Z's The Throne Leads Nominations at the Hip Hop Awards

These music kings wear the crown when it comes to HHA nods.

Kanye West and Jay-Z, aka The Throne, made a big impact at the BET Awards in July, winning awards for Best Group and Video of the Year. And in light of the nominations for this October's Hip Hop Awards — revealed tonight on 106 & Park — the duo aren't ready to relinquish their kingdom quite yet.
Jay-Z and Kanye collectively stacked up an incredible 19 nominations. In the wake of their blockbuster album, Watch the Throne, featuring the hits "Otis" and "Paris," they received five nods together as The Throne for Best Live Performer, CD of the Year, Best Club Banger, Impact Track and the People’s Champ Award Presented by Verizon.
Jay-Z, who dropped a few coveted guest verses and also expanded his business empire with the Brooklyn Nets, Roc Nation and others, received three individual nods for MVP of the Year, Hustler of the Year and Lyricist of the Year.

Kanye, meanwhile, stacked up a whopping 11 awards, for Best Hip Hop Video, Reese’s Perfect Combo Award (Best Collabo), Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, Video Director of the Year, Producer of the Year, MVP of the Year, Best Club Banger, Hustler of the Year, Impact Track and the People’s Champ Award Presented by Verizon. Yeezy has kept hip hop abuzz for the entire year with the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation Cruel Summer. The album, which will showcase the impressive talent on Kanye's label — from John Legend to Big Sean to Pusha T and beyond — doesn't drop until later this month, but it's already produced a handful of hit singles, most notably "Mercy," which is up for five awards in various categories.

But Kanye and Jay's imposing nominations list comes with a caveat: They're actually competing against each other for some of these awards. Both Kanye and Jay are nominated for Lyricist of the Year, MVP of the Year and Hustler of the Year. Both Kanye individually and The Throne are nominated for Best Live Performer. Meanwhile, Kanye and G.O.O.D. Music's "Mercy" will go head to head with The Throne's "Paris" in the Best Club Banger category.
Is The Throne big enough for both Jay-Z and Kanye West at the Hip Hop Awards? Find out on BET on October 9th at 8P/7C.
