Famed football player O.J. Simpson died at the age of 76 on April 10th, after a battle with cancer. Simpon's official X (formerly known as Twitter) account posted the news on Thursday, April 11.

Simpson's journey to fame began on the football field. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) on a football scholarship, where he quickly became a star running back. In 1968, he won the Heisman Trophy, awarded to the best college football player in the United States, cementing his status as one of the greatest running backs in college football history.

After his successful college career, Simpson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the first overall pick in the 1969 NFL Draft. During his tenure with the Bills, which lasted from 1969 to 1977, Simpson achieved remarkable success on the field. He became the first NFL player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season, accomplishing this feat in 1973. He was named the NFL MVP in 1973 and earned six Pro Bowl selections during his career.

Off the field, Simpson pursued a career in acting and broadcasting. He appeared in films such as "The Towering Inferno" and "The Naked Gun" series, showcasing his charisma and charm beyond the football field. Additionally, he worked as a sports commentator and analyst, further solidifying his presence in the media landscape.

However, Simpson's life took a dark turn in 1994 when he was arrested and charged with the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman. The highly publicized trial, known as the O.J. Simpson murder case, captivated the nation and became one of the most infamous trials in American history. Despite substantial evidence against him, including DNA evidence, Simpson was acquitted of the murders in 1995 in a verdict that divided public opinion along racial lines.

Following his acquittal, Simpson's life continued to be marred by controversy. In 1997, he was found liable for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman in a civil trial and was ordered to pay millions in damages to their families. In 2008, Simpson was convicted of armed robbery and kidnapping in Las Vegas and sentenced to 33 years in prison, with a minimum of nine years without parole.

After serving nine years in prison, Simpson was granted parole in 2017 and released from prison. His five children survive him.
