11-Year-Old Starts Book Drive to Encourage Other Black Girls - Marley Dias, a 5th grader from New Jersey, started the book drive #1000BlackGirlBooks because she was tired of reading books about “white boys and their dogs.” Since she launched her campaign, she has collected 400 books where Black girls are the main protagonists and is almost half way to reaching her goal of collecting 1,000 books. 9-Year-Old Collects Barbies For Homeless Girls Living in Shelters - Gianni Graham, a 9-year old from Virginia, started the amazing 1K Barbies for 1K Girls campaign in hopes to provide homeless girls living in shelters with dolls. For each doll sent, she sends a note saying, “I hope this brings you joy,” and “This is given to you as a friend.”Graham’s mother told NBC that she is so proud of daughter and cries about it every day.
