Family Ties - Charles and Rita jokingly shot down dating rumors by saying, “Not today,” but revealed their management team Turn First Records brought them together. Charles told The Breakfast Club, “It was a simple ask. The beat and the song already had a hook/line to it but I was feeling Rita’s voice for a while so I just asked because we have the same management.”  Rita further chimed in about working and traveling to promote “New York Raining,” stating, “It was really natural, it wasn’t forced… It’s like a marriage without the sex.”(Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images)

Diplomatic Immunity - Despite being from Harlem, Charles's style was a lot different from his flamboyant O.G's. Explaining his lyrical delivery, he revealed, “I respect Dipset and Cam and I love Big L to death but they kind of were the voice of what I was against as far as what the young people were doing when they were listening to hip hop…”Not really feeling Harlem’s gang culture at the time, he said he crafted his style by taking "some elements of Jay Z and Eminem’s music." "One of my biggest influences is Fab with his punchlines and he definitely paved the way for me step in add a little sense of humor," he said.(Photos from left: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images, Johnny Nunez/WireImage)

Growing Pains - Charles was very open about his mental-health issues and how those problems caused him to step away from the game for a while. The Harlem MC explained, “I didn’t fit in. There were some things that I disagreed with and the business started to affect the personal side so I decided that I was going to fall back from everything… I’m bi-polar. I see a doctor. Before I got in the game, I had baggage. I just didn’t expect it to overwhelm me the way that it did. [I have] extreme highs and lows.”He also added that he hopes he can inspire, saying, “I hope someone who suffers from bi-polar or any mental disorder or has been through the fire can listen to my music and see my presence as some sort of inspiration.”(Photo: Ilya S. Love Hurts - Charles Hamilton had the blogs talking several years back when he was videotaped being attacked by his former girlfriend Briana Latrise, who also happens to be Mary J. Blige’s stepdaughter. Finally explaining the fade during the epic battle, he told The Breakfast Club, “The crazy part is I’m the only one who knew what she was talking about in her verse because she was sending me some low blows too… The reason I told them to put it out is because there’s a lot of domestic violence issues in the world and I had the opportunity to at least show people my actions on how to respond to a woman when she gets physical.”Taking up for her road dog, Rita added, “Don’t get in a battle with a guy and do the one thing that he can’t respond to, which is physical violence... I think he was very gentlemanly with his response.” (Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images)

Gloves Off - Charles also spoke on his low blow in that battle where he mentioned Briana Latrise aborting their unborn child without discussing it with him, which triggered her emotional attack. “I’m trying to respect her whole family but she was bringing up stuff that she told her family the total opposite of and what she’s saying in the verse contradicts the kind of relationship her father and her stepmother knew us to have. So it was like, I can’t call you out on your stuff right away but what I can do is make you feel really wack about a decision that you made that we didn’t talk about.”  (Photo: Robin Marchant/Getty Images)

Come Clean - Charles Hamilton also admitted that he started using heroin in high school and has since kicked the habit cold turkey. “It was an experiment in high school. My life is full of experiments so I don’t want my usage of any narcotic if it isn’t weed to shape what you think about me… The way I cleaned up was I was still in high school and had to go home to a Christian mother so I had to remember all of these Christian values so it wasn’t worth it to keep doing hard drugs.… I was on it. Popped like twice [mainly a snorter]. It’s not a mental drug; it’s the dependency that’s mental. It puts a weight on your body.”(Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images)

Star Chasers - Making his triumphant comeback with “New York Raining,” the Harlem rapper doesn’t feel any pressure to catch up to the success of some of his 2009 XXL Freshmen cohorts like B.o.B, Curren$y, Wale and Kid Cudi have had. When propped with that question, Charles told The Breakfast Club his focus is his core audience, the Star Chasers. “Not really, because all I wanted was a select group of people to listen to my music. I didn’t care if 'Brooklyn Girls' was a hit. The songs that bubbled, like “Windows Media Player” and “Loser, those were the type of records that I wanted people to hear and the people that gravitated, they got an up-close and personal interaction with me ‘cause I would make my most personal music and give it straight to the fans, no marketing or nothing. I would take fans' e-mail addresses and send it to them, so I have a close relationship with my fans.”...

Major Weight - You'd think that since Charles is more devoted to his fans than chasing album sales, he'd be a strong proponent for going the independent route, but that's a harder grind than most people realize. Since parting ways with Interscope and relaunching with Republic, he told Envy his reasons, explaining, “Hate it or love it, the money. It comes with compromise.” (Photo: Slaven Vlasic/Getty Images)
