Shirley Chisholm - Chisolm was the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black female presidential candidate from a major political party.
Rev. Jesse Jackson - In 1984 and 1988, minister and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson ran for president as a Democrat. Although he lost his party’s nomination in both years his platform was supported by many voters in the primaries.
