BET Wire: Would Obama Save Putin From Drowning?

Putin says Obama is a "courageous and good person."

In Case You Missed It - Republicans leave President Obama scratching his head; Ben Carson kind of blames the spread of measles on immigrants; one lawmaker thinks it's OK if your food service worker doesn't wash his hands after a bathroom break — and more. — Joyce Jones (@BETpolitichick)

From the Mouth of Babes - During Russian President Vladimir's annual televised Q&A, a 6-year-old caller asked whether Obama, with whom he's been in tense discussions about Ukraine, would save him if he were drowning. “I don’t want to be drowning, but…” Putin said. “I don’t think I have a close personal relationship with Obama. I think Obama is a courageous and good person. For sure he would save me.”               (Photo: RT via YouTube)

A Cruz Thumbs Up - T.W. Shannon, the first African-American and the youngest member to serve as speaker of Oklahoma's House of Representatives, has won support for his U.S. Senate bid from Sen. Ted Cruz, who won't even endorse his Senate colleagues. “I’m proud to offer my enthusiastic endorsement because not only will he vote the right way, but he’ll stand up and fight with us in the Senate to stop President Obama’s assault on our liberties and defend America’s founding principles," said Cruz in a statement.  (Photo: AP Photo/Sue Ogrocki, File)

Not OK - Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin has signed a bill that bans cities from establishing mandatory minimum wage and employee benefits. Efforts to raise the minimum wage, she and other Republican legislatures argue, could cripple local economies.    (Photo: Mark Wilson/Getty Images)

Where's Our Bill? - House conservatives are anxious to see the bill to replace the Affordable Care Act that their leaders have been promising for months. Showing something they're for would go a long way toward diminishing their reputation as the Party of No, they believe. “Our leadership promised us the American Health Reform Act, or something like that,” Kansas Rep. Tim Huelskamp told The Hill.  “Where’s the promise to follow through on that from January?   (Photo: J.M. Eddins Jr./MCT /LANDOV)

Snap! - In a "Throwback Thursday" photo of Chris Christie before he was governor and Biden, then a Delaware senator, that everyone's calling adorable, the Republican welcomes the vice president to Instagram. Will conservatives consider this the social-media equivalent of the hug Christie gave Obama after Hurricane Sandy and punish him again?     (Photo: Chris Christie via Instagram)

Bad Idea, Bro - A political action committee called Boats 'N Hoes started by Shaun Nowacki, a bookkeeper for a GOP consulting firm, is dissolving for obvious reasons. “Texas Republicans say they want to reach out to women, to be more inclusive, but actions like this reinforce a pattern of disrespect," Texas Democratic Party spokeswoman Lisa Paul said in a statement. There’s no defending the use of a derogatory and offensive term like ‘hoes.’ How can women possibly take the GOP rebranding effort seriously? Their consistent contempt towards women is simply unforgivable."    (Photo: Brian Bahr/Getty Images)

Is He or Isn't He? - Although Obama's parents were an interracial couple, the president self-identifies as Black, at least publically. A majority of Americans, however, disagree. According to the findings of a study called The Next America, 52 percent of Americans said they view him as bi-racial.  (Photo: Andrew Harrer-Pool/Getty Images)
