Jay-Z and Kanye West - Celebrities are good for more than just gossip and scandal. Many of our favorite stars have gone above and beyond to do good deeds for their fellow man, often with no photo-op in sight. When Jay and 'Ye wanted to say thank you to the staff that took care of them at the New York City hotel where they spent months recording Watch the Throne, they invited the entire staff to their concert and even hooked them up with VIP treatment. A source says the rap duo felt they were "very well looked after" during their recording sessions and wanted to show their appreciation.(Photo: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images)

Zach Galifianakis - Talk about paying it forward: now that he's making paper, the Hangover Part III star decided to help out an 87-year-old homeless woman he had met 20 years before he became famous by buying her an apartment. Galifianakis' friend Renee Zellweger was so inspired by the gesture that she pitched in for furniture and a lifetime supply of groceries. To top it all off, Zach took the woman as his date to the premiere of his new comedy. (Photo: Neil P. Mockford/Getty Images)

Zoe Saldana - When we talk about celebrities and car accidents, there's usually alcohol or paparazzi involved. But not for the Star Trek actress, who played real-life hero for an elderly woman whom she witnessed get into an accident. An onlooker says she "immediately called 911" and "collected the woman's purse and sweater" from the totaled car, adding that the star was "very sweet and caring" to the shaken-up passenger. Tyler Perry - For Perry, Good Deeds isn't just a film title. The filmmaker is known to be a silent benefactor in his hometown of Atlanta, but really touched hearts when he replaced a handicapped woman's stolen special-needs van. "My mouth just dropped to the floor," said the woman when she learned of Perry's good deed. (Photo: Christopher Polk/Getty Images)

Mo'Nique - Her job is to make us laugh, but Mo's off-duty deeds often bring us to tears. The actress/comedienne, who supports various women and children's charities, went way above and beyond for My Sister's House, a shelter for abused women. She reportedly planned a red-carpet event for the struggling ladies, providing salon services, fancy clothes and even played paparazzi to make the women feel like stars. At the event, she surprised the women with scholarships and grants to make their dreams come true. Oscar-worthy, indeed. (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images)

Sammy Davis Jr. - It's not often one gets a private performance by a legendary entertainer, but the cast and crew of General Hospital got just that from Sammy Davis Jr. After wrapping a guest appearance on the soap, Davis threw the crew an impromptu thank you party, complete with catered food, a live band and a special solo performance. It's not often you see such a big star keeping it humble. (Photo: Patrick Riviere/Getty Images)

Arsenio Hall - The 1994 earthquake in Los Angeles was the worst one in recent memory, with many residents losing their homes to the tremors. Hall, then at the peak of his talk-show career, paid for his crew to take an entire week of paid leave to deal with the wreckage, and even offered bonuses to help them rebuild their homes. We'll fist-pump to that act of kindness. (Photo: Isaac Brekken/Getty Images)

Evander Holyfield Jr. - His father may have been a legendary instrument of destruction, but Evander Jr. decided to use his for good when he registered his bone marrow with the organization Delete Blood Cancer. A 14-year-old girl from Nashville owes her life to the fact that he did. Evander and his marrow-match, now 19 and thriving, finally met at the charity's annual gala in New York City this year, and their tearful meeting was a true inspiration. Bradley Cooper - Not to be outdone by his Hangover co-star Zach Galifianakis in the good deed department, Cooper made the (cold, wintry) day of hundreds of homeless people in Philadelphia. The A-list star, in town to shoot Silver Linings Playbook, spent his own cash to buy the down-on-their-luck folks winter jackets and even distributed them with his own hands. The kicker? When a homeless man complimented Cooper on his own jacket, he gave it to him off of his own back. (Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images)

Jennifer Hudson - The singer and actress turned deep tragedy into a cause for hope following the brutal murders of her mother, brother and nephew when she launched a foundation to help the families of murder victims. The Hudson-King Foundation For Families of Slain Victims provides financial assistance and grief counseling to those who, like Hudson, have suffered unspeakable loss.
