Superstars Who Struggle in the Post-Season

Clayton Kershaw has rough outings in playoffs.

Clayton Kershaw Has Rough Outings in Playoffs - Clayton Kershaw was quite simply the best pitcher in Major League Baseball this season. An MLB-best 21-3 record with an ultra-stingy 1.77 ERA is proof of that. However, to say the lefty struggled in the playoffs would be an understatement. Kershaw gave up 12 hits and 11 runs in two games against the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Division Series — both losses. His three-run homer to Matt Adams on Tuesday night proved to be the difference in a 3-2 Cardinals' win and Dodgers' elimination. Kershaw is now 1-5 in eight playoff starts. Ouch. But Kershaw is far from the only sports superstar who struggles in the post-season. Peyton Manning Doesn't Like Broncos Fight  - Peyton Manning isn't a fan of fights breaking out during training camp or at all for that matter. "I don't like [fights], to tell you the truth," the Denver Broncos quarterback told ESPN on Tuesday. "You don't do it in a game. If you do it in a game, it usually costs you something important, it costs you a drive, costs you field position. I'm into treating practice like a game. I'm not a fan of it." Manning made the statement after two separate fights broke out during Broncos practice Tuesday.(Photo: Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

Peyton Manning - Peyton Manning is arguably the greatest quarterback of all time with just about every accolade on his resume: Super Bowl XLI champion and MVP, 13-time Pro Bowler and five-time Associated Press NFL MVP to name a few. Plus, with 503 career passing touchdowns, he's closing in on Brett Favre's mark (508) for the league's all-time career passing TDs list. Yet, Manning hasn't had much fortune in the playoffs. In fact, Manning was a one and done in eight of the 13 playoffs that he led either the Indianapolis Colts or Denver Broncos to and touts an 11-12 overall post-season record, having only won one Super Bowl. Greatness, but playoff struggles.(Photo: Doug Pensinger/Getty Images)

Carmelo Anthony Says He's the Most Underrated Star Player - Carmelo Anthony won the scoring title for the 2012-13 season and finished second in scoring to Kevin Durant last year, but still thinks he’s the most underrated superstar in the NBA. "I think I'm the most underrated superstar that's out there (laughs) but that doesn't matter to me," Anthony told ESPN on Wednesday. "So as far as caring about if I'm underrated as a superstar, and getting the respect I deserve, I don't worry about that,” he added later. “In due time if everything goes well, I will get it."  (Photo: Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

Carmelo Anthony - A seven-time NBA All-Star, Carmelo Anthony has proved to be a scoring machine over the course of his 12 years in the league. Although Melo's post-season individual numbers have been great, he has only been in sniffing distance of the NBA Finals once — 2009 Western Conference Finals with the Denver Nuggets. Anthony's 10-career trips to the playoffs have all resulted in a shortcoming. An NBA title is the only thing missing from Melo's resume at this point. (Photo: Ezra Shaw/Getty Images)

No Mediocre - Like Jay Cutler, Andy Dalton inked a huge offseason extension — his with the Cincinnati Bengals — worth $115 million over six years. And like Cutler, Dalton has underwhelmed. Yes, his Bengals have a 5-3-1 record, very much still alive in the AFC playoff picture, but Dalton, with only twelve touchdown passes, hasn’t done anything that should make Cincy’s fan base believe this year could be special. Even if they make the postseason, Dalton will be fighting history as he sports an 0-3 playoff record.  (Photo: Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Andy Dalton - Sure enough, Andy Dalton has the Cincinnati Bengals out to a 3-1 record atop the AFC North division this year. Dalton sports a 33-19 record as the Bengals starting quarterback, but has been unable to lead Cincy to a single playoff win in three straight attempts. If the Bengals are to make the post-season cut this year, Dalton will be counted on to once again deliver a playoff win. He'd better, too, considering he inked a whopping six-year, $115 million contract extension before the season began. (Photo: Andy Lyons/Getty Images)

Alex Rodriguez - Alex Rodriguez's post-season struggles are well-documented. A-Rod touts a paltry .263 career-playoff batting average and even when he broke out of his post-season slump in 2009 to help lead the New York Yankees to a World Series win, he fell right back to hitting .219, .111 and .120 from 2010-12, respectively.(Photo: AP Photo/Kathy Willens)

Tony Romo - Tony Romo is still one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL, but his near-post-season berths and actual playoff woes have definitely given Dallas Cowboys fans gray hairs through the years. Although Romo has a winning record as a regular-season starter, he's just 1-3 in the playoffs, having just made the cut in 2006, 2007 and 2009, squads with enough promise to make a legit Super Bowl run. Disappointing for sure. (Photo: Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Chris Paul – Take Clippers Past Second Round - Chris Paul is having another solid season, averaging 18.1 rebounds and 9.4 assists per game for the Los Angeles Clippers. But would you believe it if we tell you that CP3 has never led a team to a Conference Finals in his nine years in the NBA? We're putting the pressure on Paul to take the Clippers there this season, but probably no more pressure than the pure point guard is putting on himself. (Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Chris Paul - Chris Paul is still regarded by many as the best point guard in the NBA. Point guards lead and CP3 has led both the then-New Orleans Hornets and Los Angeles Clippers well during different stints of his career. But in six post-seasons, Paul has failed to lead either squad to anything further than the second round of the playoffs. We know he's just getting started with Clippers coach Doc Rivers, but CP3 will be counted on to lead LA to at least the Western Conference Finals sooner than later.(Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)

Donovan McNabb - Don't front on Donovan McNabb's 13-year career. It was solid. But if there's a knock to the former Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback, it's that he drove the team to three straight NFC Championship game losses from 2001-03. When McNabb and the Eagles were finally able to get over the hump and make it to the Super Bowl in 2004-05, they lost that game too. He's a good QB who never won the big game.(Photo: Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)
