Soccer Player Sues Club for Racial Discrimination - Mark McCammon, a former player of England’s Gillingham FC soccer club, has slapped his former team with a lawsuit on Feb. 27, claiming that he and other Black players were treated more coarsely than whites in punishments handed out for missing training, medical treatment for injuries and pay cuts. McCammon is the first Black player to sue a team for discrimination, but the account is another in a string of controversy surrounding racism in England’s soccer teams. Cleveland Browns Re-Sign D'Qwell Jackson - According to reports, linebacker D'Qwell Jackson agreed to a five-year, $42.5 million deal with the Cleveland Browns on Feb. 27 that includes $19 million in guaranteed money and roster bonuses, just days before the Mar. 5 deadline for NFL teams to designate their franchise players. Sacramento Kings to Get New Arena - After months of uncertainty, the city of Sacramento and the Kings reached a tentative deal on Feb. 27 to build a new arena in the downtown Sacramento railyard, in an effort to rev up revenue for the city and the team. More than half of the money will come from leasing the city’s parking to a private operator, and the team’s owners said they will put up $75 million upfront.
